Plate Cell Patterning tests
Plate Cell Patterning – screened roller on a printing form.

Flexography’s long-lasting problem is the poor printability of tint (100% colour covering), especially in tint- screen separations, when the possibilities of changing a screened roller are limited. This can cause illumination of edges (halo effect), fill granulation, problems with negative texts.

To improve the printability of those elements the company ArtWork used in their RIP the possibility of image setting of a whole range of patterns, that approximately correspond to the screened roller’s structure, on a polymer. The selection of a structure is based on a test, which is printed in one separation with different screened rollers. After the analysis the patterning parameters related to the screened roller are being saved.

Thanks to those tests we obtain a regular colour arrangement on full surfaces, the “halo effect” is being reduced and the readability of positive as well as negative texts improves. Unfortunately after Plate Cell Patterning on a printing form changing of a screened roller is limited; which can cause a Moiré effect.
